Fuenfwerken board members at the 2009 Städl
Summer Academy
Occupational orientation at the museum for students aged 14 years and up
was the theme of the third Summer Academy (August 17 – 21). In that
framework, Fuenfwerken board members Holger Schmidhuber and Rolf
Mehnert spoke to and answered the questions of 150 youth at the
Liebieghaus in Frankfurt. Along with Christine Maurer from the Vespenstich
motor scooter service shop and under the moderation of Michael Kraft
from the YOU FM radio station, they gave information about their
education, career, and work in the field of design.
The goal of the Summer Academy – which is a project co-sponsored by
the Städel Museum, the Frankfurt Schirn Kunsthalle, and the Liebighaus
Skulpturensammlung – was to support young people as they struggle with
occupational orientation and to provide them with a platform that supports
them at an early stage as they recognize and develop their interests and
personal resources making it easier to choose and find a fitting
apprenticeship or course of study.

The art project COURAGE exists to foster creativity in young people.
It seeks to encourage them to explore the value of »courage« as well as other broad creative questions.
Students benefitted from an extensive program over the past five months.
Lectures by an architect, an animator and illustrator,
a design agency and a Manga graphic artist provided a behind-the-scenes glimpse of creative workplaces.
Trips to visit an advertising agency, theater and film-workshops and various exhibitions rounded out the picture.
Intense weekend workshops resulted in 20 art projects that tackled the concept »courage«.
Following the grand opening on February 9th,
the pieces will be on display until February 16th 2009 in the main Deichtorhalle.
From March 1st until April 13th 2009 they will be on view in the main church, the Hauptkirche St. Katharinen.
